1906 GILLETTE STANDARD MODEL #102 SERIEL #953491
Extremely nice 1906 Gillette Safety razor with the teeth comb style and a date of Nov. 1904 just
above where the turning part of the handle is. Quite shiny mirror-like head. This was the patent
date, but this razor is right in that era. I has a 1/4" hairline crack at top of handle,
but that is all.
In 1906, the second model (variously called the 1906 or the 102 model) was introduced.
the single ring was first introduced by Gillette in june 1906 as far as i know (according to Philip
Krumholz' book). "Old" refers to "Old Type" -- the first generation of Gillette DE razors.
You can identify them via the head: thin, curved cap and blade-guard; two thick, round-ended pins,
used to align the cap and guard; and the comb's teeth are all of a uniformly thin width. The
underlying material is solid brass, it is tripple silver plated. I am not sure if there is
an in between plating layer, like nickel, if anything. Written on the razor handle: Patented Nov. 15
1904. This razor is a 1906 Model #102 Gillette three-part "OLD TYPE" safety razor using the pioneering
system of disposable blades. (patented by Gillette in 1904). Silver-plated knurled removable handle.
Three piece razor, top guard has three studs, center one is threaded for handle.
Uses 3 hole blades, some of these razors have small splits in the handle which is common in this
type razor. The razor is silver plated with very little plating loss. It has been cleaned and
polished, but you may want to give a once over yourself.
